the lines \ the code \ the loop

This project was commissioned by Tresoar, an organisation that manages digital archives about Fryslan and its literature. It is a part of 'SSST!', an exhibition that explores crossovers between poetry and other artistic disciplines. In order to create moving images, I made a 'looped' version out of my algorithms. A 'loop' is a part of a computer program that repeats itself over and over again. I found that working with loops is very counter- intuitive, because in a loop only one thing can happen at a time. Some of the most interesting things happened when things didn't go as intended: The shapes that were produced by my code patterned with the pixel proportions of the LED screen that was used in the exhibition and code-to-video conversion added other elements of unexpectedness. I came to realize that flirting with the unexpected is becoming increasingly important for my creative process.
